Funds and Scholarships

Mary Ellen Meyer Fund

This fund was created to assist Wharton County High School graduates or anyone who has been honorably discharged from military service. Limited to a US citizen, who has resided in Wharton County for at least 2 years. Scholarships are given to pursue higher education leading to certification or degree. Priority is based on financial need.

Christian Endeavors Fund

This fund was established to promote those who are teaching the word and work of Jesus Christ. This can include benefitting the well-being of those in seminary or those who are in the mission field already. Funds are prioritized on a financial need basis for those qualifying.

G.R. Hawes Foundation Fund

Established to provide scholarship money for graduates of Wharton County High Schools. Funds are prioritized on a financial need basis for those qualifying for scholarships from this fund.

William Lane Scott, III Scholarship Fund

Provides scholarship money for students who attend the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Palacios, Texas. Being active in church activities increases the opportunities to obtain a scholarship.

Vocational-Technical Career Opportunity Fund

Created to provide scholarship dollars to those students seeking a career outside of the college or university route in a trade or profession whose training is provided by a licensed vocational school.

Hospice Support Inc. Fund

This fund was created to assist Hospice with the supplies and financial support they need to continue to provide valuable Hospice services within a 50-mile radius of and including Wharton County.

The Barbara Young Estate Fund

This fund was created to benefit the City of Wharton through decisions made by a committee of the executors of her will. This could include any number of recipients including Wharton ISD and WCJC.

The Jack Quirey Scholarship Fund

Designed to provide scholarships to students graduating from Wharton County High Schools that want to attend Texas A&M University and be in the Corps of Cadets. An emphasis is placed on need. Scholarship winners may reapply for additional semesters. No particular degree requirement has been specified.

The Wharton County A&M Club Fund

This fund is for scholarships offered and other promotions of Texas A&M by the Wharton County A&M Club. Beneficiaries of these scholarships are to be graduated students from high schools in Wharton County wanting to attend Texas A&M University.

The Bouligny Brothers Teacher Enrichment Fund

Fund dedicated to rewarding teaching excellence at Wharton County Junior College.

Each year a selection committee selects 3-4 instructors at the Wharton County Junior College who have done a great job of inspiring and teaching their students.

THE I.J. IRVIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Fund

Fund for students graduating from any high school in Wharton County that want to pursue a college degree from Texas A&M University.

The scholarship is based on academics and need.

THE JOHN TROTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Designed to benefit students who want to attend Texas A&M University and pursue an education in the College of Education. Other degree plans will be considered, but the primary focus is on students who want to become teachers.

THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB ENDOWMENT FUND

For a permanent endowment for the Boys & Girls Club of El Campo.

The Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of El Campo can decide how the proceeds from the principal can be spent or left as part of the principal to accumulate.

THE JOE & ALBINA ZALMAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Dedicated to students from any high school in Wharton County that wishes to pursue a college degree in Agricultural Studies.

HORTON FOOTE HERITAGE FUND

This fund was established by Hallie Foote and other friends of Horton Foote. It is designed to fund budding screenwriters who might need some financial help while their skills are honed and they achieve some success to make them independent.

WHARTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT FUND

The purpose of this fund is to provide a means of supplying, through charitable donations, the needs of under privileged students of the district such as band uniforms, instruments, school supplies, etc.

These would be normally costs that the student or their family would be responsible for providing.

Ron & Monica Grossman Fund

This fund was established by Ron & Monica Grossman in order to provide financial scholarships to Wharton County high school graduates. These scholarships are given out on need basis.
